Medicare Advantage 2025 Edition

If you’re 60 or older and living in the Tampa Bay area, it’s essential to understand how your Medicare options are changing in 2025. Whether you’re in Pasco, Hernando, Citrus, Hillsborough, Pinellas, or Polk County, our team at MyPhss is here to help you make informed decisions about your Medicare coverage.

Medicare Advantage plans (also known as Medicare Part C) continue to grow in popularity across Florida, and 2025 brings several updates that could impact your healthcare and your wallet.

Reading this short article, “Medicare Advantage 2025 Edition” will keep you updated on what you need to know.

I intend to answer most of your questions in this article, but if I miss something, please email me at support@myphss.com, and I will answer your question.

What Is a Medicare Advantage Plan?

A Medicare Advantage (MA) Plan is an all-in-one alternative to Original Medicare (Parts A and B). Offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare, these plans are required to provide the same core benefits as Original Medicare — and most go beyond.

In the Tampa Bay region, many Medicare Advantage plans now include:

  • Prescription drug coverage (Part D)

  • Dental, vision, and hearing care

  • Free gym memberships and wellness incentives

  • Over-the-counter (OTC) allowances

  • Meal delivery and transportation

  • Cash back towards your Part B premium

What’s New with Medicare Advantage in 2025?

1. Out-of-Pocket Prescription Drug Cap

Thanks to new federal rules, out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs are capped at $2,000 per year. This applies to Part D plans, including those bundled with Medicare Advantage. Even better, you can now split the cost of your prescriptions into monthly payments using the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan.

This is a huge win for many seniors in Tampa Bay on fixed incomes who rely on multiple prescriptions.

2. Better Access to Mental Health and Therapy

Medicare Advantage plans now cover more behavioral health services, including care provided by licensed counselors and marriage/family therapists. Plus, a new intensive outpatient benefit has been added to provide mental health support without full hospitalization.

3. More Plans Offering Part B Givebacks

In 2025, 32% of Medicare Advantage plans now offer cash back toward your Part B premium, with many plans offering $100/month or more in savings. If you’re in Hernando or Pasco County, this could significantly lower your healthcare costs.

4. Expanded Special Needs Plans (SNPs)

Florida seniors with chronic conditions, Medicaid eligibility, or who reside in care facilities may now qualify for one of the growing number of Special Needs Plans (SNPs). These plans offer tailored benefits, lower costs, and dedicated care teams.

What Types of Medicare Advantage Plans Are Available in Tampa Bay?

We help clients in all six counties choose between the following plan types:

  • HMO (Health Maintenance Organization): Must use in-network doctors and get referrals.

  • PPO (Preferred Provider Organization): More flexibility in choosing doctors.

  • PFFS (Private Fee-for-Service): Freedom to choose any Medicare-approved provider that accepts your plan.

  • SNP (Special Needs Plan): Designed for individuals with specific needs or financial situations.

Each plan type has pros and cons, so choosing the right one depends on your location, health conditions, prescriptions, and budget.

When Can You Enroll in Medicare Advantage?

There are a few key enrollment windows:

  • Annual Enrollment Period (AEP): October 15 – December 7

  • Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period: January 1 – March 31

  • Initial Enrollment Period: Surrounds your 65th birthday

  • Special Enrollment Periods: Triggered by life changes like moving or losing coverage

We help people every day in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Citrus, and Polk Counties find out if they qualify for a Special Enrollment Period and help them compare plans at no cost.
